The rest of this website helps you to live healthy until you die, and eventually we all will die, hopefully of old age and not from a debilitating disease. This article explains how you can extend your life to live eternally in joy and not have to experience the second death. It is fairly long, so please be patient and read all the way to the end. If you don’t read carefully to the end, please do not leave any comments. Something vitally important, like this, is well worth investing 25 minutes in—believe me.
The Most Important Message
by Van H. White
Do you consider yourself to be a good person?
Do you consider yourself to be a good person? Do you know what the word good means? It means morally excellent, kind, honorable, upright, benevolent, virtuous, well-behaved, or righteous.
What do you think God’s definition for good is? Do you think it’s His Ten Commandments? Exodus 20 Did you know that these are still very important, because God WILL judge people by them on Judgment Day? Have you ever examined them to learn exactly what they say?
God’s Ten Commandments
Let’s experiment and go through some of them and get some insights.
How about the ninth commandment, “You shall not lie?” Have you ever lied to your parents, teachers, boss, on your tax forms, on an application, on your resume’, or cheated on a test, or told fibs about where you have been, or dishonestly called in sick to work, or lied in court? How many lies do you think you have you told in your life?
The Bible warns, “The one on the throne [God] said those who tell lies will have a place in the lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
The eighth commandment is, “You shall not steal.” Have you stolen time or padded an expense report from your employer? Ever made a false insurance claim or government benefit claim? Have you stolen music or photographs using the Internet, or computer programs, or candy or a toy? How many times have YOU stolen? God said those who steal will not get to enjoy God’s kingdom.
Okay, here’s the one that gets most men. The seventh commandment is, “You shall not commit adultery.” Listen to what Jesus said, “Everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:28 How many times have YOU committed adultery? God said those who commit adultery will not get to enjoy God’s kingdom.
Did you know that you WILL have to face God on judgment day? And, He doesn’t compare you with other people. Rather, He compares you against His perfect standards.
So, what is so bad about having to face God on judgment day and being guilty? It means you will be thrown into hell! And, no, hell is NOT a fun place with all your friends!
Description of Hell from the Bible
Hell is described as a lake of fire and burning sulfur. It is an inescapable fiery furnace and yet is also called blackest darkness.
Both your body and soul go there. The physical pain is described as torment and torture. The pain is described as worms eating you continuously, and they never die. It is so bad that people wail and cry and grind their teeth. The mental pain is described as terror, distress, shame and disgrace. There is no rest day or night. This suffering lasts forever; it never ends.
My friend, hell is nothing to joke about; it is serious. Jesus Himself warned, “Don’t be afraid of people. They can kill the body, but they cannot kill the soul. The only one you should fear is God, the one who can send the body and the soul to be destroyed in hell.” Matthew 10:28 Jesus spoke more about hell than anyone else did, and He NEVER lied!
More of the Ten Commandments
Let’s continue with God’s third commandment, “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. If you do, the Lord will not let you go unpunished.” Many people say for exclamation, “Jesus Christ!” Many more say, “Oh, my God!” as a trivial expression. Many use God’s name as a curse word to show contempt. How can they treat their Creator worse than their own mother? How many times have you misused the Lord’s name?
Jesus said, “I tell you that everyone will have to answer for all the careless things they have said. This WILL happen on the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36
God’s sixth commandment is, “You shall not murder.” The Apostle John said, “Everyone who hates his brother IS a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life.” 1 John 3:15
Jesus said, “But I tell you, don’t be angry with anyone. If you are angry with others, you will be judged. And if you insult someone, you will be judged by the high court. And if you call someone a fool, you will be in danger of the fire of hell.” Matthew 5:22 How many times have you hated, been angry, insulted someone, or called someone a name?” You see, God has VERY high standards!
But, God’s first commandment is the hardest: “You must not worship any other gods except me.” Tell me, is your love for God supreme over all your other loves? Or, do you love any person more than God, or any possession, or any hobby, or any activity, or your vocation, or even food, drink or drugs more than you love God?
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your strength, and ALL your mind. Also, Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.” Jesus then said, “Do THIS and you will have eternal life.” Luke 10:27–28
Jesus said, “You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and money at the same time.” Matthew 6:24 Do you love money? Is money the center of your life, your god?
God’s second commandment, “You must not make any idols…. Don’t worship or serve idols of ANY kind, because I, the Lord, am your God. I HATE my people worshiping other gods.”
Did you know that people can make idols with their minds? Do you agree with this statement? My God is not a God of judgment, and He would never send anyone to hell, because He sees the good qualities in people and loves them and forgives them. That is NOT the God of the Bible. If you agreed with that statement, you have sculpted a false god, an idol, in your mind to replace the true God.
The Apostle Paul said, “These are the people who do wrong and who will not get to enjoy His kingdom: those who sin sexually, those who worship idols, those who commit adultery, … , those who steal, those who are greedy, those who drink too much, … and those who cheat.” 1 Corinthians 6:9–10
God’s fifth commandment is, “Honor your father and your mother.” Have you always honored both of your parents in WORD, or did you talk back to them, mock them, or put them down? In THOUGHT, or did you shun or ignore them? In DEED, or did you disobey them or neglect their needs?
God’s tenth commandment is, “You must not want another man’s wife. You must not want his house… You must not want to take anything that belongs to another person.” This includes his BMW, his fine clothes and jewelry, his investments, his iPhone, or his tennis shoes. How many times have YOU coveted something owned by someone else? God said those who are greedy or covetous will not get to enjoy God’s kingdom. Be contented.
God also said, “Forget about the wrong things people do to you. Don’t try to get even.” Leviticus 19:18
Everyone Has a Conscience
You know, God has done an amazing thing in giving people a conscience; He wrote His law upon the heart of every man and woman. Even people who have never heard or read God’s commandments have a conscience that tells them what is right. When their thoughts tell them they have done wrong, this makes them guilty. On judgment day, God will judge people’s secret thoughts through Jesus Christ. A person’s conscience has condemned him or her already.
What is Sin?
Breaking all these is called SIN. John said, “… sinning is the same as living against God’s law.” 1 John 3:4
God said, “People who sin against Me become My enemies, and I WILL punish them.” Exodus 20:5 Is God a liar, or do you think He really will punish them? And, all have sinned.
You have seen how God’s standards are far higher than man’s standards and seem impossible to meet. Are you discouraged? Do you feel helpless in being good enough for God? Is it hopeless? Just wait! There is a blessed hope!
Who Has Sinned?
There is a remote chance that someone still thinks they have kept the law as described above. John said, “If we say that we have no sin, we are FOOLING ourselves, and the TRUTH is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
Paul said, “for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 Further, Paul said, “There is no one doing what is right, not even one.” Roman 3:10 So, are YOU doing what is right? NO!
Someone may amazingly claim, “Well, I only sinned one time and that was years ago.” God said, “If you fail to obey only one command, you are guilty of breaking all.” James 2:10
Paul said, “NO one can be made RIGHT with God by following the law. The law only SHOWS us our sin.” Romans 3:20 So don’t trust in the Law, and don’t trust in yourself— neither will work.
How Will God Judge You on Judgment Day?
God WILL judge you by the these commandments on judgment day. Will you be innocent or guilty? Will you go to heaven or hell?
It Is a Deadly Mistake to Presume God Will Overlook Your Sins On Judgment Day
Some people still say, heaven. They say that because they presume, since God is good, He will overlook their sins. But they have overlooked God’s holy and righteous character.
Imagine a court of law. You were tempted and were not thinking clearly, and you did something illegal just once, and got caught. Other than that you have been good 99.999999 percent of the time.
The judge tells you, “The evidence has proven that you are guilty. Have you got any final thing to say?”
You say, “Your honor, I believe you are a good man, and you will let me go free because you know that I am better than most people, and you wouldn’t want me to suffer in an awful prison, would you?”
The judge may say, “I am a good man, and, because I am good, I will do my job and see that justice is done and criminals like you are punished.”
Friend, it is the goodness of God that will REQUIRE condemnation of liars, thieves and adulterers like you and me. God MUST punish all sin, no matter how small, for He is just and HOLY.
Violating God’s Law Angers God and Stores Up Wrath for You
Now you understand that you are guilty of violating God’s law, that you have angered God and His wrath is upon you. When judgment day comes, you will be in BIG trouble. You desperately need a SAVIOR to escape the wrath that IS coming.
What is the Result of Sin?
Your breaking of God’s commandments, that is, your sin, means you deserve to go, not to the perfect heaven, but to hell, the second death, a lake of fire where you agonize in torment forever. Paul said, “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23.
Friend, I am NOT judging you, for I am neither worthy nor wise enough to do that. Jesus will PERSONALLY be your judge. I am merely ASKING you to judge YOURSELF. How will YOU stand before a holy God who will judge you by His perfect standard of righteousness? Please do it NOW, before you die and it is too late.
Judgment Day Is Coming!
God said, “Everyone must die once. Then they ARE judged.” Hebrews 9:27 God said, “You will be judged by the law that makes people free.” James 2:12 Paul said, “On judgment day, God will judge people’s secret thoughts through Jesus Christ.” Romans 2:16
God Chose a Fair Judgment and Proved It
Paul said, “God has decided on a day when He will judge ALL the people in the world in a way that is fair. To do this He will use a man He chose long ago. And He has proven to everyone that this is the man to do it. He proved it by raising Him from death!” Acts 17:31
God warns us that ALL the dead will be judged, EVERY one of them, according to their DEEDS. Revelation 20:13 Jesus said, “The Son of Man [Jesus] will come again with His Father’s glory and with His angels. And He will reward everyone for what they have done.” Matthew 16:27
What Does God Think About Proud People?
Most people don’t want to judge themselves, because they are too proud. They refuse to humble themselves and repent to God. (Repent means to have regret, sorrow and remorse and change your life’s direction.)
How does God feel about this proud attitude? The Bible says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit therefore to God.” James 4:6–7 It also says, “The Lord HATES those who are proud. You can be SURE He will punish them all.” Proverbs 16:5
Do you see a need for God’s forgiveness? Now, I want to tell you the GREATEST NEWS you have ever heard in your entire life!
God’s Special Way To Avoid Judgment – Faith in Jesus!
Paul explains, “But God has a way to make people RIGHT, and it has nothing to do with the law…. GOD makes people right through their FAITH in Jesus Christ. He does this for all who believe in Christ. Everyone is the same.” Romans 3:21–22
Think back to the courtroom scenario where you were guilty and you couldn’t convince the good judge to let you off. Your sentence was 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Unfortunately, you had no money.
The bailiff had started to lead you back to your prison cell. Then, all of sudden, someone stepped into the courtroom and handed the judge a check for $1,000,000 and said, “I will serve his 20 year prison sentence.”
The judge stopped you, “Wait, someone has stepped forward to serve your time, and he also paid your $1 million debt. I have never seen anything like it! Well, since your debt to society HAS been paid, the law no longer has a hold on you, so I HAVE to set you free. This man demonstrated an incredible amount of love and sacrifice for you. I hope you appreciate him.”
Jesus Loved You So Much That He Died for You!
My friend, that is what God did for you and me. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, so He didn’t deserve ANY punishment; He didn’t deserve to die on the cross. However, He took the shame, He suffered the punishment, He was nailed to the cross, He shed His blood, He even laid down His life, voluntarily, to pay for YOUR sins, because He LOVED you so much. Plus, He gave you His righteousness! He gave you His perfect sinless record. Wow, what amazing love!
Paul said, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’” Galatians 3:13 Paul also said, “But Christ DIED for us while we were still sinners, and by THIS God showed how much He loves us.” Romans 5:8
Jesus’ Next Visit Will Be to Bring Salvation
The Bible says, “So Christ was offered as a sacrifice one time to take away the sins of many people. And He will come a second time, but not to offer Himself for sin. He will come the second time to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28 He is coming back! Are YOU anxiously waiting for Him?
Why Did Jesus Die?
Here’s how simple it is: We broke God’s law, but Jesus paid our penalty. We deserved judgment, but Jesus was judged for us. We deserved to die, but Jesus died for us. John said, “The greatest love people can show is to die for their friends.” John 15:13
Paul said, “He gave himself for us. He died to free us from all evil. He died to make us pure—people who belong only to him and who always want to do good.” Titus 2:14
The Solution To Sin’s Judgment is to Believe in Jesus
“Jesus said to her [Martha], ‘I am the resurrection. I am life. Everyone who believes in Me will have life, even if they die.’” John 11:25
What I have just told you is called the good news, that is, the gospel. Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16 So, what must you do? BELIEVE!
Intellectual Belief Is Not Enough
Please realize that this belief is not mere intellectual assent. The Bible says, “You believe there is one God. That’s good, but even the demons believe that! And they shake with fear.” James 2:19 You must believe and trust God from your HEART. Cast yourself completely on Him.
Is This Message Crazy to You?
Unfortunately, some people will hear this gospel message and think it is crazy. Did you know the Bible talks about these people? “The teaching about the cross seems foolish to those who are lost.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
Paul said, “People who do not have God’s Spirit do not accept the things that come from His Spirit. They think these things are foolish. They cannot understand them, because they can only be understood with the Spirit’s help.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
People May Love Your Good Works, But They Won’t Get You To Heaven
After all this, you are surely aware of your sinful, hopeless condition and the fact of the coming judgment day before Almighty God. There is no amount of good works you can do to avoid deserving hell and to deserve heaven.
And, you heard how Jesus paid the penalty for your sin by His death on the cross. Jesus paid it ALL, your whole penalty! He loves you that much!
Sorrowful and Brokenhearted?
You are probably sorrowful and brokenhearted that you deeply offended God by violating His law. You want to be changed and sin no more so you can have a friendly, close relationship with God. You yearn for God’s forgiveness.
Paul said, “I now rejoice that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation.” 2 Corinthians 7:9–10
Repentance and Faith
The Bible describes people who heard the gospel: “Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brethren, what shall we do?’ Peter said to them, ‘REPENT…’” Acts 2:37–38
Paul said, “I did not shrink from teaching you and solemnly testifying of REPENTANCE toward God and FAITH in our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:20–21
True Belief Has Obedience
John said, “Whoever BELIEVES in the Son [Jesus] has eternal life. But those who do not OBEY the Son will never have that life. They cannot get away from God’s anger.” John 3:36
John also said, “God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who BELIEVES in Him would not be lost but have eternal life.” John 3:16 Also, “He that does not believe is condemned already.” John 3:18
Get God’s Forgiveness
John said, “If we CONFESS our sins, God will FORGIVE us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.” 1 John 1:9
Here is the spiritual progression:
Read and hear God’s message
Become aware of sinfulness
Have Godly sorrow
Repent to God; believe (have faith) in Jesus, God’s son and in His resurrection
Confess sins and pray for forgiveness
Confess Jesus as Lord and Son of God before men
Obey Jesus, flee sins, pursue righteousness, bear fruit
Eternal life, salvation; Avoid God’s wrath on judgment day
Receive glory, honor and peace
Please do not make the frequent mistake of jumping to obedience, in hopes for salvation. That is legalism; good works are important, but CANNOT save you. You need the entire progression, which can occur in minutes, or it can take years.
Are You Saved or Deceived?
Also, many people just read or hear God’s message (and even preach it) but are too proud to address their sinfulness. Sadly, they are deceived, thinking they are saved, but they have never been changed. They will suffer judgment.
Are you fully surrendered to Jesus in your heart? Do you desire to obey Him? Do you want to please Him?
What Should You Do To Be Saved?
Humble yourself before the Lord and repent of sins. Scripture says, “HUMBLE yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” James 4:10
Paul said, “Now God is telling everyone in the world to CHANGE [that is, REPENT] and TURN to Him.” Acts 17:30
James said, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep.” James 4:8–9
God Doesn’t Want Anyone To Be Lost
Peter said, “[God] doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning.” 2 Peter 3:9
Tell God How You Feel, Now Is the Time!
Do you feel a need for God to forgive you of your sin? Do you want to fully surrender to Jesus? Then, right now, stop reading and tell Him your honest feelings, one-on-one. Many people pray like this:
I recognize that You are holy, righteous, and just. I confess my sinfulness to You; I have repeatedly broken Your law and deserve eternal punishment. Forgive me for my sin, and give me the strength to turn from my selfishness and rebellion.
Thank you for taking my place on the cross as punishment for my sin. I receive You as Lord and Savior. Please give me the courage to live the kind of life that will glorify You in all that I say and do. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
How God Will Change You
After you have repented, believed and committed yourself to obey God, then you will be changed. All things will be new to you. That means you will be born again, and God’s Holy Spirit will have come to live inside you. You will feel relieved and free. Your conscience will tell you certain activities are no longer right for you. You will be hungry to learn from the Bible. You will love being around other believers. You will want to talk often with God (prayer). You will be anxious to share this exciting good news with others. (If these don’t describe your life, ask God if you genuinely have been saved.)
If, after reading this, you feel that this is just not for you, I understand. You are in the majority. And, I commend you for your open-mindedness and patience in reading this.
Only the Narrow Gate Leads To Life
However, Jesus warned against being in the majority when He said, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13–14
A Grave Caution
Remember, it’s appointed to man once to die. If you die in your sins, God will be FORCED to give you justice, and His judgment is going to be extremely thorough. For every idle word you speak, you will have to give account of on the day of judgment. If you have lusted, you have committed adultery. If you have misused God’s name, you have blasphemed. If you have invented a new god with your own philosophy, you have engaged in idol worship. If you have hated someone, you have committed murder. If you have lied, stolen, been greedy, dishonored your parents, or not totally loved your Creator, then you will receive God’s righteous judgment.
We live in a great world of blessing NOW. But God’s wrath WILL eventually be poured out on all nonbelievers.
I strongly encourage you to pick up a Bible and start reading the Gospel of John. Open your heart and let God speak to you.
Further Help for New Believers:
How Do You Know If You Are Born Again?
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control… Galatians 5:22–23
Don’t be discouraged, but all believers will experience these three things: temptation; tribulation, that is, trouble; and persecution. Therefore, do the following nine things:
Memorize and Meditate on These Scriptures:
God said, “I will never leave you; I will never run away from you.” Hebrews 13:5 John said, “But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.” 1 John 1:9
Have Faith in God:
John said, “People who do not believe God make God a liar.” 1 John 5:10 “Jesus answered, ‘Have faith in God.’” Mark 11:22 The Bible says, “Without faith no one can please God.” Hebrews 11:6
Read the Bible Daily:
Psalm 1 says, “Great blessings belong to those who … love the Lord’s teachings and think about them day and night. So they grow strong… Everything they do is successful.” Psalm 1 Obey what you read.
Read Psalm 119 for more about God’s Word.
Become active in a good, loving, Bible-based church. The Bible says, “We must not quit meeting together, as some are doing. No, we need to keep on encouraging each other.” Hebrews 10:25
Seek to be water baptized without delay. It does not save you. Rather, it is a public, symbolic act of obedience to God.
Be Filled with the Spirit:
Paul wrote, “Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with [that is, controlled by] the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18 This means our wills should be totally submitted and obedient to the will of the Spirit of the Lord.
This may include Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication (petition). Remember A.C.T.S. Prayer is also two-way communication. Listen for God’s comfort, direction, encouragement, correction.
Know Your Enemy:
Your enemy is three-fold: the world, the flesh, and the Devil. Crucify your “flesh” and the world will have no attraction for you, and the Devil will have no foothold on you. See Ephesians 6:10–20 and 1 Peter 5:8–10.
Devote your life to reaching people dying without Christ. Share the good news of salvation with everyone. This is your purpose on earth. Share this message with anyone that you care about.
May You Respond To God’s Call!
